For many years, owning a timeshare in South Africa was a great way for many RCI members to ensure themselves of great trades, even if they never got around to visiting the actual timeshare that they owned. I have heard some rumors lately that SA timeshares don’t quite hold the trading power that the used to, but I’m finding that with the new “trading power” system that is now in place for RCI Weeks memberships, there are still tons of resorts with exchange trading power in the 20s. For example, the Sun City Vacation Club located in the North West Province has a trading power between 21-25 depending on dates and size of unit.

Another great advantage of RCI South Africa timeshares is that many of these resorts are located in great places to visit, such as Cape Town with its beautiful beaches, Johannesburg for casino excitement at Sun City, and there are many resorts located near Kruger National Park which would make a great base for exploring both Kruger NP and the Selati Game Reserve .  Both areas are renowned for their abundant wildlife and you will be able to take safaris into the parks.

Cape Town Resorts

Some of the popular Cape Town resorts include The Place on the Bay, a beachfront resort located in the suburb of Camps Bay. It’s only about 10 minutes from downtown Cape Town and it has an amazing beach and great views of the Twelve Apostles.

You can also stay on the Peninsula at The Peninsula Resort with its great views of the Atlantic Ocean and you are no more than five minutes from great shopping at the Waterfront district.

Kruger National Park Resorts

Try the Kruger Park Lodge for amazing scenery and lots of great outdoor attractions and their 9 hole golf course. Kruger National Park is less than 30 miles away and the Elephant Sanctuary is close by as well. Accommodation at the Kruger Park Lodge is in thatched roof cottages so you will have plenty of privacy and room to spread out.

Or spend time with the hippos at the Sabi River Sun Lifestyle Resort. A short stroll from your chalet will bring you to a great spot for watching the Hippos, or you can play golf at the Sabi River Sun 18-hole golf course. Again, you also have great access to Kruger National Park.

Timeshare Resales South Africa

Another great thing about South Africa timeshares is that they also tend to be very inexpensive to buy and routinely have low maintenance fees compared to what you would pay for a timeshare located in someplace like Florida. Right now, I don’t see many listings for timeshares for sale in South Africa on Ebay, so you may need to check out some other options, such as Red Week or buying from a timeshare dealer who specializes in South Africa. This may be your best bet if you will be buying a resort before visiting it, as a professional can offer you advice on the best property for your needs.

There are also a number of properties that are available to timeshare owners, either through trading or through vacation clubs like Royal Holiday Club, which offers the Crown Plaza Times Square. They used to offer two of the Affinia properties, the Affinia Dumont and the Affinia Manhattan, but as far as I know they are no longer available as a “timeshare”. Though certainly. you could still book their suites directly through Affinia. The Crown Plaza isn’t actually a timeshare however, so I will not be including it on this list.

Timeshares in New York City

The Manhattan Club

The Manhattan Club was the first timeshare resort in New York City and it is very conveniently located between Broadway and Seventh Avenue. The resort is affiliated with both RCI and Interval International, so if you have a timeshare to exchange, you’ll probably save quite a bit over booking for cash. Unit size are small compared to timeshares you’ll find in someplace like Orlando, but let’s face it, every hotel room in New York City ranges from small to tiny. Your options at The Manhattan Club are Suites, which are furnished with a queen bed and a sleep sofa; and a 1-bedroom which is furnished with a king sized bed and a sleep sofa in the living room.

The Hilton Club New York

The Hilton Club New York is actually located inside the midtown Hilton New York on 6th Avenue (between W53rd and W 54th). If you are considering ownership, this is a Right-to-Use property (like DVC), not deeded. Also, one other thing worth noting is that the Hilton Club is NOT part of the Hilton Grand Vacations Club. So if you are an HGVC owner, you cannot use your points here. However, if you are a Hilton Club owner, you can use your points at HGVC.

The Hilton Club New York resides on the 37th and 38th floors and they have their own exclusive check-in on the 37th floor. Accommodations include studios and 1 and 2-bedroom suites. All beds are king-sized and the 1 and 2 bedroom suites feature a “roman soaking tub” (i.e., an oversized tub without jets). If you are staying at the Hilton Club, you will also have access to the Club Lounge, which includes a free continental breakfast each day, complimentary non-alcoholic beverages and snacks at other times, and a nightly manager’s reception.

West 57th Street by Hilton Club

West 57th Street by Hilton Club is a Hilton Grand Vacations Club property. It is also located in Midtown — on West 57th Street obviously! Closest cross streets are 6th and 7th Avenue. West 57th is a purpose-built 28-story building with 161 studios and 1 bedroom suites. Beds are king-sized in all suites and all suites feature floor to ceiling windows for great views of the city.

Jiminy Peak timeshares are rather more numerous than I would have expected for a ski resort located in the Berkshires of Massachusetts. In addition to the on-site resort, there are three other timeshares close to Jiminy Peak, two operated by Wyndham, and one by Vacation Village. Here’s what’s on offer:

Timeshares Jiminy Peak

Country Village at Jiminy Peak
The RCI resort directory lists the ski resorts timeshare as Country Village, but on their website you will see it listed as New England Country Inn and Vacation Home Rentals. The property is a combination all-suite hotel and two or three-bedroom condominiums. They are affiliated with RCI so you could probably exchange into the resort if you have the trading power, but you can also make reservations directly with Jiminy Peak Mountain Resort.

If you are considering staying at the condos, keep in mind that they are located 1/2 to 1 1/2 miles away from the base of the mountain and the resort does not provide shuttle service to the condominiums.

Vacation Village in the Berkshires
Vacation Village is located directly across the street from Jiminy Peak and they offer one and two bedroom units. Vacation Village is also one of the few timeshares I know of to have “pet friendly” accomodation, but you will want to contact them in advance of your trip to find out what the rules are as I believe they need advance notice to accomodate pets as they only do so in certain units. I stayed there last spring and never even noticed any pets so I don’t think they are in every building.

Again, you will still want to drive over to the mountain to go skiing as it would be a bit of a hike to and from the resort. Like the Country Inn, Vacation Village does not offer a shuttle to and from the mountain. They do have a nice indoor pool and outdoor hot tub though. It’s housed in the main building, which you can see in the photo.

Wyndham Bentley Brook
IN the RCI directory, Wyndham lists two resorts at Bentley Brook, but they are both at the same property and if you are a Wyndham member, you’ll note that the Wyndham Vacation Resorts website just lists Bentley Brook as a single resort. I believe the main difference in the multiple designations for RCI are the unit sizes. Bentley Brook II is listed as having all 2 bedroom floor plans, whereas Bentley Brook I has studios and 1-bedroom units as well.

The main advantage of Wyndham Bentley Brook over the other Jiminy Peak timeshares is that it is a ski-in and ski-out resort, so it is probably your best bet if your are looking for a traditional ski week timeshare. Bentley Brook is situated right at the base of Jiminy Peak.

If you don’t mind the driving however, you do have some choices to consider in both Montana and Wyoming, so let’s take a look at what’s available in West Yellowstone, Big Sky and Jackson Hole, all of which are less than two hours’ drive to one of the park entrances. Addresses and telephone numbers are at the bottom of this entry.

West Yellowstone Timeshare Rental or Exchange

Worldmark has a resort in West Yellowstone. I personally think it is a bit of pain to travel to and from West Yellowstone each day if you want to explore the park thoroughly, but for most folks this is going to be your best option. While there is a park entrance literally on West Yellowstone’s doorstep, you’ll need to travel a good 20-30 miles into the park to see any of the major sites — for example, Old Faithful is a 30 mile drive from the West Yellowstone entrance. Although you may get lucky and see some animals during the drive. The last time I trekked into the National Park from W. Yellowstone I saw lots of Elk.

In addition to the WorldMark resort, there is the timeshare Yellowstone Village, but thought it is an RCI affiliate, it is not a purpose-built timeshare resort. It may suit your needs however if you just need some place that is actually close to the park.

Big Sky Timeshares

Further away, there are a few resorts in Big Sky, Montana. Big Sky is about 57 miles from the park entrance in West Yellowstone. The Big Sky timeshares are Big Sky Resort (Interval International affiliate) and Lake Condominiums at Big Sky (RCI affiliate). Big Sky is a great skiing destination so there is plenty to do in this area as well.

Jackson Hole Timeshares

If you are planning on visiting Grand Teton National Park as well as Yellowstone NP, one option is to stay in one of the timeshares in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. There are three different Jackson Hole timeshare resorts and while it isn’t as close to Yellowstone NP as I would like, it might work for you if the park isn’t your only destination. Jackson Hole is closest to the South Entrance to Yellowstone and that route takes you right through Grand Teton National Park. The timeshares in Jackson Hole are Towncenter at Jackson Hole, Jackson Pines, Jackson Hole Racquet Club and Spring Creek Ranch.

Jackson, Wy is about 70 miles away from Yellowstone, so it isn’t really ideal as a base, but the area has a lot to offer, including the much quieter Grand Teton NP. If you wanted to visit Yellowstone from there, I would recommend trying to camp in Yellowstone overnight or stay at one of the lodges and then returning to Jackson Hole the next day rather than trying to do it as a day trip.

Visiting Yellowstone

Just keep in mind that no matter what time of year you are visiting Yellowstone park, you need to make your reservations for accomodation very far in advance. This is true of any timeshare near Yellowstone National Park and the regular types of accomodation. The Worldmark resort is usually completely booked so as soon as you are able to make reservations, do so. I would recommend the same for the other resorts as well, and of course, you will also want to think very far ahead if you want to stay at at lodge or cabin inside the National Park itself. It books as far as a year in advance!

In my opinion, staying at one of the Lodges or cabins inside Yellowstone National Park is really the best way to experience everything the park has to offer. You’ll be able to get up at dawn to see the sun rise and you can stay and watch sunset or go watch Old Faithful erupt in the moonlight rather than having to worry about driving many miles in the dark back to your condo. There’s the Divi Aruba Phoenix Beach resort, a beachfront high rise resort; the Divi Village Golf and Beach Resort at Druif Beach, with its own 9 hole golf course; the Divi Dutch Village, an all-suite resort, is located near the Divi Village golf resort.
